Frog Belly Farm is a labor of love for Mike and Melanie and their family of kids, cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and many friends. The spot couldn’t be more charming, nestled in its farmland valley north of Boulder. The overlooking mountains have poured water down the irrigation ditches for a century. Now those waters flow right into the Frog Belly's fields where crops are beginning to grow—as are newborn calves, and a strong community of farm and local food fans. The farm hosts monthly square dancing and Mike feeds the crowd with homemade soups he’s prepared from the garden.
Frog Belly hosts us in their lovely fields and pastures which produce a broad range of vegetables, meat, and goat dairy. A walk through the Geodesic dome provides an uplifting surprise: to see tomatoes in June, a Mediterranean sized rosemary bush—and even citrus trees—is exciting in our high desert climate. Our menus at Frog Belly are a reflection of the diversity and enthusiastic spirit of the farm and its produce. On September 24, we are looking forward to a special dinner dedicated to cider. Lauren Shepard of Shelton Brothers Importers will be tableside to explain the rich traditions behind each of the cider paired with our menu. |
