Sol y Sombra Farm

Allison Edwards wanted to "promote community, sustainable agriculture, and healthy eating habits," and so she started her very own farm to do just that. On her two acre property in downtown Hygiene—across from the elementary school—Allison grows a great variety of heirloom vegetables and flowers for her family, her customers, and if she had it her way, for the school kids across the street.

Allison has been putting down new roots at her three-year-old farm, and enjoying its uninterrupted views of the Front Range. Last summer she brought an additional acre next door under cultivation. Now she will have more space for her favorite crop: beans. Her affection for the legumes stems from her origins in the South.

In season, Allison sets up a farm stand on her property, where her customers can pick up fresh produce, flowers and farm eggs on their way home. Additionally, her harvest is available at the Longmont Farmers' Market and to her CSA members—Sol y Sombra delivers the weekly shares for free throughout Boulder County.
